Rav-E: Haan Karde

I had the pleasure of performing alongside Rav-E at Non Stop Bhangra, which is a high energy monthly event in San Francisco. Rav-E plays the dhol and DJ's for the collective...and we jammed out on some dancehall infused bhangra vibes in a dhol vs beatbox session. He is showcasing his versatility here launching his production via this new video. Have a look and read below for more info. It's hard to put into words how fun and inspiring Non Stop Bhangra is, but you will for sure get a taste here! Much respect.

--Hailing from California, Rav-E is a talented artist that has been rocking stages all across North America as a member of San Francisco's legendary Non Stop Bhangra Collective. This young yet seasoned artist has a natural infatuation with Bhangra, the folk music of his motherland Punjab. Not only is he a talent behind the dj decks known for seamlessly mixing Bhangra, Hip-Hop, and Electronica on the fly, but is also an exceptional dhol player after having studied under the world renowned Ustad Lal Singh Bhatti. This killer combination has undoubtedly made Rav-E into a multi-dimensional live performer and has given him the opportunity to perform alongside some of the biggest names in the Bhangra industry. Now, taking the skills he learned from his traditional training with Ustad Ji and his experience as a veteran DJ, Rav-E has began his journey as a music producer. His goal is to the bridge the gap with hopes of elevating Bhangra to a new level of international recognition. While remaining close to his roots, Rav-E is striving to further facilitate Bhangra's transcendence across musical and cultural barriers. Rav-E is a new signing to internationally renowned production duo Tigerstyle's boutique label Soldier Sound Recordings. His debut single "Haan Karde" introduces him to the Bhangra scene, with a lot more to follow!--

Actress- R.I.P.

The new Actress R.I.P. album is out on Honest Jon's Records...really deep vibes. There is a lot of tranquility throughout the album and a sense of timelessness as it unfolds.

Read more about the release and purchase here.

IN THE NOW, my collab with Grasp The Erro is out today on Bombeatz Ink

Purchase the release on Beatport here. Grasp's dark and deep bassline goes over my vocals in a subtle yet eery manner. I went in the direction of feeling alienated and introspective as I was writing the lyrics. In the end, what surfaced was a vision to just live in the moment regardless of backwards or forward motions.

Sit back

This life's right on track

Used to wish time would speed up

You can't rush progress

Teaching myself to live in the now

When I think life should slow down

It's a gradual process

Live in the now...

The second track on the release, Whitness is more of a dance floor roller which rounds out the EP nicely. We are very excited that it's finally out.

Actors- Post Traumatic Love

Big respect to Actors, an indie new wave band outta Vancouver. I've been really digging their Post Traumatic Love song as of late, and they have it up for free download.

Woodhead did a slick remix of the tune as well. The drums add a bit more of dance feel to the song while not taking anything away from the vibe. Great to see all the artists crossing over in our city right now...

Emeli Sande

Emeli Sande deserves it all. The Scottish soul songstress is making waves after a couple very uplifting singles. Her album Our Version of Events is due out in North America on June 5, and has already gone platinum in the UK.

Max Ulis- Knowledge

This tune is killing me at the moment. All the subtleties along with a pumping bassline and clever samples make it great tune. Max Ulis is doing big things right now. This one is forthcoming on 10Pin Records...Much respect.

Mouth vs Fingers

I made a bunch of vocal sounds, recorded them in the studio, and programmed them to the MPD with Ableton. Performed this routine at my last shows in Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.

Shot and edited by Runsheng.

It feels great to take beatboxing into a new realm. At my shows it was almost like people understood a bit more of what was going on when I broke it down by doing the sounds vocally and on the pads. Looking forward to posting more clips and gig footage very soon.
