Mazzy Star- Common Burn/ Lay Myself Down

15 years after Among My Swan (one of my all time favourite albums) was released on Capitol Records, Mazzy Star is finally putting out new audio! According to their website, a new album and tour will be announced in 2012...but in the mean time get to know 2 lovely new tunes. Hope Sandoval's voice is still melt-worthy...

waste land

I really enjoyed watching Waste Land, and recommend you check it out too...

Here is the synopsis:

--Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of catadores—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. Director Lucy Walker (DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND, BLINDSIGHT and COUNTDOWN TO ZERO) and co-directors João Jardim and Karen Harley have great access to the entire process and, in the end, offer stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit.--

Massive Attack vs Burial: Four Walls

I'm pretty excited for this collaboration between Massive Attack and Burial. It was released today as a limited edition vinyl with only 1000 pressings...which are already sold out. Four Walls is spacy, haunting, and everything a triphop fan could hope for. It is not confined by usual track length as it clocks in at 11:57.

Have a listen.

Here is the write-up from the Vinyl Factory website:

The subject of prolonged rumour and intense speculation, Inhale Gold and The Vinyl Factory are proud to present Massive Attack’s long awaited collaboration with Burial, Four Walls / Paradise Circus.

These new Burial mixes of previously unreleased Massive Attack track 'Four Walls' and Heligoland favourite 'Paradise Circus' are available exclusively as limited vinyl edition of only 1000 copies worldwide.

Pressed on heavyweight 180g 12” vinyl housed in a stunning, hand numbered, gold glitter screen-printed sleeve designed by Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja (3D), this edition has been crafted by The Vinyl Factory, and is sure to become a highly coveted collectors item.

As you’d expect from these two acts these are no ordinary remixes and Burial has completely rebuilt both tracks in his own unique style providing a masterclass in production.

At around 12 minutes each, both 'Four Walls' and 'Paradise Circus' have been given the time and space to evolve and develop going way beyond the scope of normal remixes, with the end result two highly original, in every sense of the word, pieces of music.

Jpod- Grass & Gospel

Jpod has posted up some freebies from his Grass & Gospel remix album. He created these re-interpretations for his morning set at Bass Coast Project in July. His set woke everyone up with feel good vibes and then kick-started K-Tel's soul sermon on Sunday....I was lucky enough to throw down right after:)

Have a listen below and head over to his website to download the tunes. Much respect!

Calibre - Condition

I had the pleasure of seeing Calibre at Soundwave last July and was totally blown away. I've always been a fan of the deeper and liquid funk side of DnB. His Even If album was on major repeat for me while I was on tour at the end of 2010. I probably listened to Thirst Dub, Steptoe, No Reply, and Me Myself And I every day when I was in Asia/ Aus. It was actually surprising how many DJ's used his music during sound check to check the bass...especially with Thirst Dub.

I could go on about his catalogue before that album...but I'll let you backtrack all the way to 2001.

Calibre's Condition album just dropped and it is stellar...go get it!
