the owl who took my hat and gave it back

so i said bye to my friend reiko as she walked to her car. i was a block and a half from my apartment building...walking home on the same route as normal. out of nowhere i felt a blow to the top left of my head. it felt like something was thrown very hard at me. i was dumbfounded...i looked in every direction, and on the ground to see what it was. i even looked up at the balconies of buildings to see if someone threw an object at me. everywhere i looked...there was nothing. how was it possible to get hit that hard and have nothing around?

i kept walking. i touched my head and knew it really happened, cause my head hurt. moments later...the exact same thing happened. only this time i looked up and there was huge owl flying in front of me....about 5 feet from my face with its wings spread...and my hat was in its talons. it looked at me as it flew away. then it proceeded to fly to the nearest tree and sit there with my red hat dangling...it kept staring at me. so the first blow to my head was the owl trying to snatch my hat, but i guess it failed. there must have been something about this red hat i was wearing to make it come back for a second attempt. it eventually flew to a tree that was even taller, but looked down at me the whole time.

i called reiko, cause i knew i had to share this event with someone. by now she was in her car, and she came to see this for herself. after all that took place, it was pretty amusing to see an owl high up in a tree holding a red toronto blue jays hat. after a few insants the owl dropped the hat to the ground. reiko urged me to go get it. my logic thought it was a bad idea, cause i didn't know what this owl was capable of. after all, if it came at me out of nowhere....who knows what it would do if i went for the object that it seemed to want. i took one step towards the hat and the owl exposed its wings. you can make fun of me all you want, but i got ready to run...i think i actually ran a few feet. i turned around and the owl was just sitting there watching. reiko ended up going to get my hat, and the owl didn't do anything. as we left the scene, it just sat there looking.

i don't know what this means. if you're laughing right now, remember that you didn'thave a gigantic owl 5 feet away from your face. it's crazy cause the owl represents so many different things in every culture. to some it's a pagan symbol...or a symbol of death...or a creature of the underworld...in hindu culture the owl is the vehicle for the goddess lakshmi who is the goddess of wealth.

the description that stuck out to me was this one:

--Taking symbolism from the owl directly, it is noteworthy that it is a creature of the night. Nocturnal creatures are symbolic of inner-knowing, psychic ability, and intuition - so too is the owl.

If an owl has visited you, an incredible gift has been bestowed. Also, keep in mind that animals are only called to those who share the same energy. In other words, you hold within you some of the very same symbolic attributes the owl represents.--

the reason why this explanation stuck out to me was because i have been up til 4-5am every night for the past few weeks, unable to sleep. i too have been a nocturnal creature as of late. i guess the owl was communicating to me. not sure what to make of it just yet, but i'm sure i will soon find out.....

sand soaked mind

Winding down
As today unfolds right there in front of me

Finding sounds
From the breeze and in waves from the sea

Destinations unsure
While I learn
To love the shore

Complications won't deter
Me as I yearn
To give back more

Take this voice
Take these thoughts
And whatever
That helps this place

I'll make my noise
And write plots
As a go-getter
To help this race

We have a choice
To be lost
Or run together
In this maze

My mind enjoys
That I fought
For both endeavours
Through every phase...
